Sidney Bechet was a Creole from New Orleans. He played clarinet and soprano sax in various bands in New Orleans, Chicago, New York and all over Europe starting in 1914. By 1950, however, jazz work had all but dried up and he was having trouble making a living. He moved to France where jazz gigs were plentiful. Like other black musicians, Bechet found that we was warmly accepted in France and spent the rest of his life there. This is his most famous composition, written in 1952, The title means “Little Flower”. “Petite Fleur”.
